As a clinical neuropsychologist, I started Remembery as a means to disseminate knowledge about various forms of dementia. In my neuropsychology clinic, I found myself consistently providing the same feedback to patients and their families. I later realized how few professionals were spending time educating their patients and their families about dementia. There are dementia specific chapters and other chapters devoted to various caregiving concerns, means to promote continued independence, and information on proactive health behaviors to modify disease onset. These recommendations broadly encompass the techniques I have utilized within my own clinic with my patients to address the unique features of each type of dementia.
The last portion is a memoir. Despite being a professional working with patients with dementia, Remembery shares that even someone who should have all the answers faced the same conflicts that emerge any time a child attempts to parent a parent. I am hopeful that by sharing my story and my clinical experiences, I can do something positive in the face of dementia.
